2027: Obi, Makinde, Dickson meet Kwankwaso in Kano, fuel alliance speculations

Key opposition figures, including Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde and Seriake Dickson, on Sunday visited Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano, in a move seen as early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The leaders, who paid a Sallah visit to Kwankwaso, held talks with supporters and stakeholders, with discussions largely centred on building a united front capable of challenging the ruling party in the next election.

Addressing the gathering, Obi stressed the need for opposition unity, expressing confidence that a strong coalition could take power in 2027.

He also spoke on plans to revive Kano’s industrial base, highlighting areas like Bompai and Sharada as key economic hubs that need urgent attention.

Despite the political undertones, the former Anambra governor maintained that the visit was primarily to celebrate the Sallah season and show solidarity with the people of Kano.

However, political observers and support groups at the meeting openly pushed for an alliance, arguing that a combination of Obi’s southern support and Kwankwaso’s northern influence could significantly reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of 2027.
