KanoState Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has charged operational commanders in the state to remain neutral, professional and respectful of human rights in the discharge of their duties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bakori gave the charge during a strategic lecture on Election Security Management held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Bompai, Kano.

The lecture was attended by Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), heads of tactical and operational units and other senior officers of the command.

The Commissioner commended the officers for their dedication and resilience in the prevention and control of crime, noting that their efforts had contributed to the relative peace and stability being enjoyed in the state. He, however, warned them to remain absolutely neutral, apolitical and non-partisan in the discharge of their duties, particularly as political activities and electioneering campaigns intensify ahead of the 2027 polls.

“The Nigeria Police Force has a constitutional responsibility to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and actors,” Bakori said.

He warned that any police officer found engaging in partisan politics or compromising the integrity of the electoral process would face strict disciplinary action. The CP further charged the commanders to uphold professionalism, respect human rights and the rule of law, while working selflessly to earn and sustain the trust and confidence of the public.

“Public trust is the cornerstone of effective policing,” he said, urging the officers to strengthen community partnerships and intelligence-led policing to ensure a peaceful, credible and hitch-free electoral process.

Bakori reiterated the commitment of the command, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to providing adequate security before, during and after the 2027 general elections in Kano State.
